it has been 4 years since sanjeeda celebrated her birthday in singapore and it is imperative that as a best friend, i do my very best to make this one a birthday to remember.

in case you don't already know, i LOVE surprising people. it's just one of those things about me. whether it's sending presents to someone via mail (and not telling them), leaving little notes on people's tables or making a random motivational poster without rhyme or reason, i just love it. i don't care if i am there to see the reactions on people's faces (i hardly ever do) but i truly believe i am born to surprise.

so anyway, 2 days before her birthday, we went to little sweden...heh. a place in singapore we call IKEA. she mentioned some time back she wanted daim cake for her birthday but since ikea only sells them by slices and i know the cake will melt horribly if i bring them home, i figured that we might as well celebrate her birthday there itself.

after eating the really bad chicken rice crap they had, and right before eating the daim cake, i pulled out all the presents!

a journal, so that she can rekindle her passion for writing. it is in my opinion that writing helps us through the hardest of days; when we feel misunderstood, when we feel the need to ventventvent the most positive way possible, when we need a place to hide from the world. a journal is one of those gifts that keeps giving :)

what a classic reaction, man. i got her this dorothy perkins' top that she mentioned that she liked some time back. it was pricey so i told her it's not worth paying for it. in retrospect, when i went to get it, i realized that yeah the quality is great but the best thing ever is that she loved it so much she wore it three days straight! she even wore it on the day she received it from me :)

the third thing i got her was a plain paged notebook. she has an unhealthy fetish for polka dots plus she doesn't like lined pages. this is my way of saying, who says you can't suffer in style when in cambridge? ok fine, it's just a notebook but it's so freaking awesome i got one meself!

and no birthday present is complete without a birthday card, yeah? too bad i didn't get a shot of the card itself cos it was real cute. it's a black and white photo of a giraffe and an elephant standing butt against butt. whassat all mean? LEAN ON ME. so awfully adorable! out of all the presents, she loved the words i wrote the most. so, yay!

oh and mmm...daim cake.

we did our compulsory rounds at ikea after that.

on our way back, sanjeeda felt a need to pierce her ears, so i decided to do one as a way of motivation. we went on our way to 77th street at junction 8 (where i did my piercing recently). when i went there the last time, i swear to god, it was utterly painless and superbly quick. mind you, it was a cartilage piercing so i expected it to hurt but it really didn't. when we arrived at the shop, that lady wasn't around so another girl did the piercing for us.

the first thing sanjeeda said after her first ear was pierced was, "how could you say that it doesn't hurt?"

she still went ahead and pierced the other one amidst the horrible pain she was going through.

and yeah, when i did mine, it really, really hurt. and it remained hurting for the next 24 hours or so! bloody hell.

but it's really, really pretty.

the only problem now is that i feel like going for many more piercings in the future. let's see lah. i doubt i'll ever do anything to my face (cos my grandma says i can't) but yeah.

i planned to bake a cake for sanjeeda the day before her birthday and suprise her at her doorstep at midnight so i lied to her about going to my grandma's place and all. i have never made a layer cake in my life so this was going to be one hell of an attempt!

i decided to make a strawberry cake for her, which is basically a basic sponge cake layered with cream and fresh strawberries.

but still, not bad for a first timer, eh?

the surprise went quite well, i would say. but because mig and i didn't let sanjeeda's mom in on the surprise, she actually bought sanjeeda a cake as well! ah well, the more the merrier, no?

sorry, but i needed to camwhore the cake a teeny bit more :P

and that's it for day two!

finally, sanjeeda turns 23 on the 23rd :) this whole day is dedicated to FOOD! we start off with a snack at long john silver's...

after that we headed off to far east plaza for sanjeeda to get some accessories, and then we landed our butts at anatolia for some doner meat! (seriously, not worth the eleven bucks dammit!)

mig was snapping some shots when he caught this on camera. damn i look sad. i think it must be me getting upset over the price of the food or something, heh.

after that, we walked to newton food court and while waiting for the rest of sanjeeda's family to arrive we indulged in some freaking awesome satay! yum...

then when everyone arrived, we had REAL FOOD.

BURP.

and so the night ended with laughs and bloated stomachs; the way god intended it to be, i bet.

sanjeeda, though we have been friends for only 6 years, it does feel strange to think back to a time when we weren't a part of each other's lives. though we were in the same secondary school, we had virtually no memory of each other. though you were someone else's best friend when we met in jc, somehow things fell in place. it's not to say that it's been an easy ride; on the contrary, it's been the craziest trip either of us have ever taken. so many things have changed and it does feel surreal at times, but we're still here today.

happy birthday sanjeeda, and here's wishing you a great year ahead. may you succeed academically, grow stronger emotionally and mentally, and find happiness in the unexpected way life usually turns out. people come and go in our lives but we both know amidst all the uncertainty, that until one of us dies this bond we share can never be broken.

as 2010 beckons, it's that time of the year again. the rash-ain annual birthday exchange! i've been curious about the marina barrage ever since rash put up photos of her trips on her blog, so she satiated my eagerness by bringing me there!

water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink...

after we had our bk burgers and fries/onion rings, it is time for rash to open her prezzies!

as per tradition, we made cards for each other.
though my card is colourful, it is not nearly as pretty as the one she made me!
nonetheless, i am super happy she was elated by my choice of presents :)

it's such a crazy coincedence that rash got me something i had received from my cousin for my birthday!
it's this sink and tap paper clip holder. no worries rash, now my table at the office will have two taps! :D

we decided to express our joy for birthdays by jumping about in water, blowing bubbles and getting stinking wet.
no, really we smelt horrible on the way home but it was well worth the trouble!

needless to say, rash is a better jumper than me any day.
i make the most ridiculous faces whenever i jump. bleahhh.

these bubbles are the best bubbles in the whole wide world. for only a dollar you get the biggest,
most colourful and long lasting type bubbles EVAR!

on a random note: i pierced my ear! at a shop (not by my own hand)!
i did it on utter impulse and it was the best feeling ever! i was so high on the rush! and to think it did not hurt AT ALL. i swear, i did not feel a damn thing. only later on did it ache a bit, but nope, no pain AT ALL. i feel so damn liberated; i am so glad i acted on impulse cos it's about time that part of me is resurrected from her confined vessel. it's just a stupid piercing i know, but the feeling is indescribable. priceless.

i digress.

anyway, it's amazing how 6 years have passed and yet it feels both too short and yet so long at the same time. it's even more amazing that we both rarely meet up during the year, but whenever we do this annual birthday exchange thing (or go on one of our adventures), it's like we're a bunch of kids again! it's like we just saw each other yesterday :)

rash, here's to many more annual birthday exchanges and adventures! here's to friendship!

the last time i came to botanic gardens, my mother was pregnant with sue. it was either that, or when one of my aunts brought me and nani to walk about and feed the swans. whichever it was, the last time i went to the botanic gardens, i was less than a decade young. fast forward 14 years later and i'm trying to recall why in the world i never came back.

today me and rash had an impromptu adventure trip down to the botanic gardens.
okay, maybe 'adventure' is a long stretch but it sure felt like it in a calm, unfazed kind of way.

for instance, we found a waterfall! okay, not so much 'found' it but chanced upon it. granted, it was probably generated by pipes or something, but heck, it's a waterfall! we went to the back of the waterfall to check out how it looked like from behind.

we trekked on and on and on looking for more diversified plants (i.e. non-green) but pretty much failed since we didn't follow any map and simply walked on in any direction we wanted. we probably walked for an hour before taking a short break to let my aching toes rest (long story) and exchange stories about tuition kids.

after the short break, we trudged on like true warriors on the path to nowhere and rash met a friend of hers who was involved in some (*cough*lame-ass*cough*) amazing race game or something. she told me that he had a fairly interesting name and we forged ahead in the desire to now look for a toilet (for me) and the children's eco-garden (for rash).

for some reason or other, we had a real tough time finding any toilets and somehow managed to venture into the nus graduate club, where i finally managed to relieve my bloated bladder. after that, walking was so much easier and we headed straight to the children's eco-garden.

alas! the apek security guard who snapped this photograph told us that he was no professional photographer (no kidding...ok just kidding) and that we couldn't enter the garden unless we had children to bring in! what a bummer. where am i to find willing children accomplice at such short notice?

dejected but not disheartened, we left botanic gardens in search of food. after a half hour of crossing the same roads back and forth, we took a bus and dropped off after one stop to makan at mad jack. i've heard rave reviews about the blue mountain burger which has 3 beef patties and all but i wasn't too sure about the other food.

the burger was huge. but damn, was it tasty or what? the beef was tender and juicy and freakishly awesome. the only down side is that the beef was such a huge part of the burger that it overpowered everything else that was on/in it. the taste of the bread disappeared and if there were any onions or herbs in it, the flavours were all diminished. BUT it was good.

i got myself a grilled dory fish with black pepper sauce. it was okay, i guess. the fish had a slightly fishy smell/taste to it, maybe cos there was no lemon that accompanied the meal. the 'apple salad' that came with it is basically made up of shredded lettuce, three CUBES of apple and two TINY SLICES of peach. the mashed potato tastes like it came from an instant packet. next time, i'll just get the blue mountain burger lah!

our next stop is the island creamery which was nearby. rash got the teh tarik and coconut swirl flavours while i got the nutella and burnt caramel (my ABSOLUTE favourite ice cream flavour to date!). we got a real nice table with real nice chairs and real nice pillows.

the best part of it is that the table is located at the back so we don't face the counter like the rest of the tables do. now why would i say that? ok, so the ice cream's awesome, but the people serving you are generally bitches. they don't smile or treat you like a human being unless you are white. yep.

so it was nice to laugh and talk and eat ice cream without having to look at the workers' faces. we even got a little bit daring and took a scoop of all four flavours...which may not sound like much, but it was...exciting...at that point of time...not too sure why...

at the end of the day, though we didn't really get lost, we both each introduced the other person to something new. rash intro-ed me to mad jack (and how to get to botanic gardens!) and i intro-ed her to island creamery. besides that, we also learnt more about each other. like how the world (especially singapore) is a REALLY small place. that we are capable of laughing when we most badly want to cry. that there is so much we can never know of people, even those we think we have figured out.

if we never return to botanic gardens or mad jack or island creamery in the next 14 years,
it's all good cos what's most important is that we had today.

i hate hate hate hate HATE falling sick. and i have this ridiculous tendency to fall sick whenever i am meeting up with the lonerz. (maybe it's a psychological thing and i secretly want to spread my germs and make them suffer WAHAHAHA....or maybe not.) to make matters worse, i had tuition at 11am that same day. so what's a girl to do but to stock up on panadol extra, normal panadol (the round ones that have no caffeine in them) and strepsils. btw, i am on a semi-warpath with my tuition kid and i told her that for the whole month of june, i will not be assigning her any homework or plan out topics to cover. SHE will be responsible for EVERYTHING. i think it scared her a bit but because she is in some ways like me (read: stubborn) she didn't really make a show of it (unlike my ex-tuition kid who visibly got upset and forced me to assign him homework cos he didn't want the responsibility...i hope he fails his o level english WAHAHAHA.)

i digress. i'm sick, you see.

anyway, usha the moron promised me she will be at orchard by 6plus (i don't know why i BELIEVED her) and i ended up being the earliest there. not wanting to burst into flames in frustration (i am unreasonable when i am sick, you see) i walked on to kino to bask in gay books (i found two books i may get online soon) and met up with samz about 15 mins later.

me and samz bitched about the rest as we lined up for spageddies at paragon, and though samz stopped with the bitchiness later, i seemed to have embraced it whole-heartedly. i think it's only cos i was sick.

when the rest arrived (as in when usha, vid, yati and pras aka the EVIL LATECOMERS turned up) we ordered our food. while waiting, we camwhored like noone's business.

and since vid and i hadn't met for a while, our trouble-making was a lot more irritating than usual.

I HOPE YOU GET ALL MY GERMS WAHAHAHA!

and what's dinner without food right? since i was sick, i didn't really care for anything but SOUP but since there was literally nothing soup-like about the dishes (apart from the...soup itself) i got myself some combo manicotti and cannelloni. it came looking like an indonesia flag.

eh, it wasn't half bad. half of it was stuffed with herb and cheese, the other half had chicken and mushroom i think. not great but not bad either.

samz ordered an oriental chicken salad which was awesome since it was spicy and crunchy and yummy!

vidya who is a professional working woman now ordered a VERY BORING LASAGNE.

it looked like my cat puked on it. WAHAHAHA. (but seriously, it was very boring. more boring than mine.)

yati and pras ordered ravioli (one with meat, another without...)

ehhh, it was okay i guess.

usha ordered the dory fish WHICH IS TEH BEST SHIT EVER.

really, really, REALLY good fish here. if it were spicy it would have been PERFECT.

after dinner was over and done with, yati needed to rush off, but the rest of us proceeded to...(where else) LIDO (aka our favourite sec sch hangout)! i wasn't in the mood for starbucks but i was SICK and needed a warm drink so i got myself a chai latte (which tasted damn gross, bloody hell).

as you can see, the dark side don't know how to LOOK AT THE CAMERA when taking photos.

and then look at our lovely side...

somehow or rather we ended up bitching about twitter, the people sitting next to us, the size of usha's and pras' boobs (i cannot remember how we came about talking about this), marriage (and how i am NOT getting into that THANK YOU VERY MUCH), future prospects and other randomly related stuff. by the end of it all, i really wished i wasn't sick cos all the excitement and laughter really drained me towards the end of the day :(

rash and i were on a mission last week. we were both excited to reconcile with a place of nostalgia that was responsible for the active imaginations we developed during our childhoods...THE SINGAPORE SCIENCE CENTER!

the initial plan was to go for the da vinci exhibition, but since admission to the science center itself is only a dollar extra, we figured, why not?

BEST DECISION WE EVER MADE.

the da vinci exhibition was interesting but disappointing in several ways.

for one, photography is not allowed! are you freaking kidding me? why not? i was thinking of how cool it would be if there was a huge-ass frame set up with a human-sized body of the mona lisa, and people could put their heads where her head is supposed to be and take photos! secondly, (i think) none of the exhibits were authentic. they are photographs and reproductions of da vinci's work, which is understandable given the $15 entry price for the exhibition. lastly, the exhibition was WAY too small! after about half an hour, me and rash were pretty much done with seeing everything! bleah.

nonetheless, da vinci is a man worth so much more hype than what has been going on about the mona lisa, or the paintings that dan brown mentioned in his infamous book. when i took the module 'histories of great inventions', i learnt about da vinci's inventions and his foresight into future technology. the exhibition showcased some of da vinci's ideas and creations, but it did also emphasize on the mona lisa. why i am surprised i don't know, since that painting is the one thing everyone is concerned about.

there were some interactive exhibits but unfortunately, there were too few of them to really educate or even arouse interest.
nonetheless, we made do!

to be perfectly honest i cannot, for the life of me, recall what this creepy looking outfit is supposed to do!
but i knew i badly wanted to get inside it and hide in toilets to scare people. alas, i couldn't even take a photo with it.

although the exhibition is a tad disappointing, seeing the reproductions of da vinci's works was a pleasure in itself.
there is something powerful about coming into contact with ideas and mysteries of a man only known to the modern world by his achievements...
and through dan brown's book. and that horrid film.

thank goodness me and rash paid an extra dollar to have access to the science center!
for one thing, the science center is bigger and more exciting than i remembered.
the best part about the science center is that, PHOTOGRAPHY IS ALLOWED DAMMIT and there are so many interactive things to try out!

we played virtual games, learnt about bodyparts, got to touch and hear and see and smell exciting things...it was just funfunfun!

we even got to experience a taste of what the future may hold.
pretty cool stuff i must say.

and we even met spock, the alien and predator!

all in all, the science center itself is worth going for.

nadia and i do not often meet up.

we usually meet up like once a year to catch up, and if we do meet up more than once, we'll probably take like 4 months in between or something. maybe it's cos we take a lot of energy out of the other with the kind of random nonsense we talk about... one example from today is nadia exclaiming with the utmost convinction (complete with hand gesture and all), "eh, cicak is setan!"

so yeah, we don't meet often cos maybe we're too much to handle.

or we're just lazy people.

anyhow, i met up with her last thursday for ichiban boshi round #2. since she had already taken photos of most of the food we ordered from the last time, she only had one photo to take this time around:

mushrooms in butter soup or something. I HATE THE SOUP! needless to say i stuck by faithfully to my unagi with scrambled egg. mmm...yum.

muka tengah excited nak makan. ravenous!

after stuffing ourselves silly with japanese food, we walked on to raffles city for some (japanese? korean? does anyone really care?) yogurt at yoguru aka BEST YOGURT PLACE EVAH. we got the half plain, half yogubliss yogurt and sat at the food court upstairs to devour our awesome yogurt. we got into a HUGE DEBATE over cempedak and nangka (jackfruit), since nadia believes they are the same and i (who know better) am convinced that they are different. and then as all things go, we ended up talking about something totally unrelated such as the singaporean dude who posts up sex videos online and reenacting some of his lines. nadia will get a shirt printed with the words, "ger, i doggy you lah" and i will get one that says, "kor not so loud, later grandmother will hear".

somehow or rather we ended up at parkway parade aka my new favourite mall because it is so awesome. it has borders, cold storage, cotton on, dorothy perkins, banquet, GIANT etc etc etc. since i was finishing up on 'good omens', i decided to get another book since borders has awesome bargain deals.

this one is called 'pinkerton's sister' by peter rushforth.

what i liked about it (aside from the lowlowlow price) is that it refers to other works that i am familiar with such as oscar wilde's 'the picture of dorian gray' and charlotte bronte's 'jane eyre'. the first page got me hooked when the narrator states that bertha mason (the madwoman in jane eyre) was not locked in the attic, but in the room below the attic. similar to the painting of dorian gray. similar to the narrator herself. awesome right?

dorothy perkins was having a sale and nadia found me this top/dress thingy which was real nice. and affordable, heh. not to mention that the cold storage at parkway parade has butterscotch chips (!!!) as well as cakes (!!!).

so exciting.

on our way to the bus stop, we stopped by the hawker center to get some soy food. nadia got herself a bandung soymilk (wtf, right) and i got me some beancurd with gula melaka.

damn good. i think this shop is famous cos after we got our food, a bunch of people appeared out of nowhere and queued up to buy the soy drinks and curd.

since i got the butterscotch chips, i baked a bunch of stuff for my sister's birthday and nadia and i decided to do our first ever bake swap! she made caramel cake and i was going to exchange that with 2 oatmeal butterscotch cookies. hence, we met today and while we had starbucks we were supposed to read, but (as always) ended up lamenting about cedar and our funny experiences in school. i realize that i had really colourful memories from all the institutions i was ever in and should i become famous one day, these stories may sell! for instance, like how my sec 2 class had our own pseduo burn book ala mean girls! how i was sent to the principal's office twice (gasp!) how i had crazy friends who do crazy things etc etc etc.

we were just getting into the gist of it when these 2 mats and 1 minah (ala 2 girls and 1 cup...okay maybe not) came along and sat...right next to our table. there were at least 8 empty tables around but they HAD to sit next to us...and start talking at the tops of their voices. that spoiled the mood, so we walked around for a bit (staring at kitchen appliances) before having dinner at yoshinoya.

since nadia swears by the beef, i tried it with tons of chilli flakes.

my verdict? the beef may look like wrinkly old people skin ala benjamin button but they taste pretty good. i do have a soft spot for unagi though so i might be going for the unagi bowl next time i drop by yoshinoya. the unagi bowl (which i tried for dinner after the pink dot event) would have been shit-awesome (shawsome?) if it had a bigger slice of unagi in it. unagi is so good they should make ice cream out of it.

haha, no even i wouldn't eat that!

nadia calls this my stalker face.

which is weird cos i totally didn't plan on a stalker face at all. i thought i was smiling normally. this explains why some children cry and cats hide in fright when i try and be jovial to them.

anyhow, the next pictures just prove that nadia is the bloody stalker between the two of us dammit.

now, HER face is certified stalker, alright?

the day ended with me lugging home 3 cup walkers for the sisters and myself, before launching into full blogging mode! 3 lengthy photo posts in 1 day?

saturday was a tiring day for me. in the morning i went to my grandfather's grave to say some prayers (my family does that every weekend), after that i went for the pink dot event, and i rushed home to bake bake bake for my sister's birthday party which was on sunday!

and since i found butterscotch morsels at parkway parade cold storage when i was out with nadia, i was determined to use them in my baking goods! aren't they freaking amazing? i could not believe i hand them in my hands cos they were literally IMPOSSIBLE to find in singapore.

now cold storage EVERYWHERE should be stocking up on these cos i found them at compass point and nadia says they have it at novena too. YAY COLD STORAGE!

i baked 3 things: oatmeal butterscotch cookies, butterscotch and chocolate chip blondies and mini sugar donut muffins.

i started off the blondies cos they were the easiest to bake.

they smelt like what heaven (or hell) smells like. though i must say if you wanna make these, you should consume them within...12 hours or so. cos they are already hardening up pretty quickly. i added semi-sweet chocolate chips cos i figured butterscotch would be really creamy and needed a bit of bitterness to balance it out.

while it was baking, i made the mini donut muffins! i made them regular last time but they were very filling so i decided to downsize them.

these were delishhhh. they were fluffy and moist, BUT they were slightly burnt at the bottom. heh. i should have used a mini muffin pan but i couldn't find one on time so this was my next best option.

i took a break after that and started on the oatmeal butterscotch cookies. they were the most troublesome to make since i had to bake them in batches. BUT THESE COOKIES ARE DEFINITELY A KEEPER. out of all 3 things i made, i loved these the most.

they weren't so pretty as the others but they taste so much better!

damn was i tired after baking all these. it was well worth the time though cos butterscotch in the oven is pure unadulterated olfactory pleasure. if you wanna purchase butterscotch morsels, get them from the parkway parade cold storage cos they are selling at a discounted price of $8.50. it's regular price is $10.50, if i am not wrong. each bag weighs 11oz.

since not many kids turned up, i had to pack the goodies for the guests to bring home, and i kinda wish i didn't give away so many cookies. they were chewy and creamy and GREAT!

pink dot is seriously one event that i was so excited to attend. so excited i couldn't even sleep the night before. so excited i constantly looked constipated in all the photos. too bad i couldn't camwhore properly cos i couldn't find the charger to my mom's appropriately pink camera, hehe.

upon entrance we were given pink flyers and tissue packets (we were too late to grab an umbrella) and one random guy in a pink wig jumped out of nowhere, gave durga a pink balloon and said, "this balloon is made out of rubber and rubber protects you from....discrimination!"

then never give me and aliah balloons. grrr. we had to pick up our own balloons FROM THE GRASS FLOOR. so unglam.

when we arrived, i spotted a dikir barat group about to perform and this guy in a pink baju kurung with a songket and songkok was talking to them, so i thought, "wah so cool got dikir barat and all, and their teacher is even in pink!" when me, durga and aliah sat on the field to watch the performance, the aforementioned pink "teacher" guy was next to me and aliah and i didn't make much of it. when he left, aliah asked me, "was that alfian?" and i immediately laughed it off, saying that that couldn't POSSIBLY be alfian...cos alfian is "more slender".

later on, i was scanning the crowd when i saw the face of the pink "teacher" guy.

it. was. alfian.

he was right beside me. and i had no idea who he was.

exactly one year ago, on 31st dec 2007, me and rash went on a random hunt for adventure and had our usual belated birthday presents exchange. this year, we did something similar.

i needed to get books from the nus lib so rash sneaked me in a couple of weeks ago. before that we had lunch at mega bites aka this awesome cafe/diner place that had creative names for their good cheap western food. sigh. the grass will always be greener on the other side.

rash's bbq chicken pizza and my yummy coincedental bbq chicken sandwich.

yep, it was a pretty big sandwich.

i made rash a charm bracelet (which looks nicer than this, really!)

yes rash, i made it myself.

and baked her some m&m cookies with Rs on them! (and smiley faces...and some other random patterns).

after that trip down to nus, i photocopied the relevant chapters and needed to return the stash before school started, so down to nus we went again! sadly however, most of the food places were closed! sigh, we traveled high and low without nourishment for hours! we arrived at tong seng hawker center at around 4pm to have lunch...and for me to receive my presents this time! yay!

my matcha imo aka soft serve ice cream with green tea sauce and deep fried sweet potato...and additional 5 japanese dumplings. the sweet potato and the soft serve were fabulicious (uh-huh)! the dumplings, however, were pretty much useless.

rash's peach kakigori which was pretty awesometastic (uh-huh) too. i liked how the ice cream tasted with the peach sauce and the crushed ice.

i bought myself bottle of water soon after cos i got thirsty in about 5 mins.

since i missed out on the last trip to jb cos i had 'beastly' exams, i was all for this trip! ah one and half days of good food good rest and good time. yep, we all gotta take care of ourselves once in a while even if the world is out to tear us apart.

it was a gloomy day in singapore when ain and rash decided to get lost in this little red dot of a nation. rash and i plan to have our own reality tv show (in case our degrees don't get us anywhere) called "Who Says You Can't Get Lost in Singapore?" we aim to get lost, and if either of us asks, "eh, where are we now?" and the other can't answer, it means we have achieved our goal!

and cos rash is an IT-GENIUS (have you seen her video of a chicken running?!) she already prepared a poster.

we started off with lunch at chella's, a vegetarian restaurant near mustafa centre which sells the best bhatura EVER.

and we had some of the panni puri too (just cos it's fun to share new things with friends!)

after that, we had north indian ice cream at this hidden shop. the kulfi was expensive but the ambience of the shop, the pretty shop owner as well as the ice cream itself were all plus points.

the tables and chairs were intricately beautiful.

the shop sells windchimes and other indian crafts, albeit expensive price tags.

hey, i am quite angelic myself. heh.

sometimes i think rash and i are conjoined twins, i wonder why, hmmm.

the weather was not hot and was instead windy and gloomy which was perfect... until it began to drizzle.

we tried to escape.

but we got caught...in the rain...and for jaywalking. cis bedebah!

we both realised we have never explored outram park before so off we went to cool our angry selves down.

at outram, we realised chinatown was a stone's throw away and quickly retracted our steps since we knew we couldn't get lost there...cos we've gotten lost there before!

along the way we found interesting murals.

frankly, i find them quite hilarious! especially the soldier pointing his tank at the kids. how very, very TRUE. talk about the TRUTH about nationalism and political agenda in art...and from long ago too.

we went into this place called 'oriental plaza' and discovered a defunct(?) cinema. how did we know it was not functioning? well, the prices of drinks/popcorn were ridiculously cheap!

aaand the film ratings are so ancient-looking!

then we discovered that our nation has a singapore chinese football club...really?

we left soonafter and realized we were nearby dickenson hill road...which we didn't know where that was...which is good!

this temple(?) is huge! like really, really huge. there were shiny aluminium-like dragons and what not littered at the front. i wonder what festival is coming up.

just a note: rash is showing how not to jaywalk here. i wonder if rozalina would have forgiven us had she seen this.

moving along, this building is cool. and i believe, freaky too...at night!

rash wanted me to see her house when we passed by it.

and then she locked me out!

oh, and we'd passed by kereta ayer road by then.

someway, somehow we ended up in tanjong pagar and decided to further our journey into lost-dom.

somewhere in the distance, there was a huge luggage bag with CARLTON written on it. what a place, what a way to advertise!

after we left, the mega plastic light bulb continued to inspire others.

that was when we ended up in a shopping mall - make that TWO shopping malls - and not knowing what the heck they were both named.

and the shop 'n save there is the most empty one i have ever seen in my life.

oh, and then we took the lift up to the top floors. before we did, the security ahpek eyed us suspiciously and said, 'where you going? this lift only goes to offices.' the door closed in his face when i said, 'oh, really?'

we decided to sneak around for a bit and shamelessly got stuck somewhere. one of the workers, thankfully, saved our asses.

after that, we loitered in another mall which was located nearby.

it's not like we were running out of ideas...the toilet really was a nice place to camwhore!

after all that walking, we finally wandered off randomly to find coffee bean (and found it!), so we chilled for about 40 mins before rash went to get her laptop from school and i went home to sleep.

pras' 22nd birthday!

this is long overdue (as with every other thing in my life) but what the hell!

so we celebrated pras' birthday a couple of days late but it was a nice reunion of sorts. i must say that i am not such a bad party planner after all :) almost everyone (who wasn't overseas that is) made it, so i guess it was a big accomplishment for me, heh. (you wouldn't know how difficult it is to get a day when everyone is available, okay!)

first stop: sakura @ far east. although we all preferred the one at level 2, that one had already been closed down, so we settled for the one at level 5 instead.

oh and something funny happened. since pras has this tendency to actually be on time whenever we are supposed to meet, i told her to take her time and try and be late. the irony is that everyone was on time (yes, even bedah!), and the latest non-birthday person to arrive was me (vid arrived 10 seconds earlier)! hence, pras was actually late by 15 mins at least! good job pras :)

as always, we couldn't help but egg pras on about her being a vegetarian that eats eggs. we're just kidding (but it's actually starting to get old, heh).

since level 5 sakura is always busy, always staring at big groups of diners in their pursuit of chasing them away as soon as possible, we decided to take our mess elsewhere.

it was a random and very sudden trip down to chinatown this weekend, and it was rainy and cold! and despite the little tiff we had with this auntie at one of the shops, it was a really nice trip cos it was pretty festive. i liked how different it all was compared to the huge crowds at geylang during hari raya. btw, photos are all courtesy of rash :)

yep, these are the infamous chillies that got us into trouble :P

pretty sights! though, the peacock feathers were going at an exorbitant 5 for $10!

a rare find! weird huh, they remind me of cartoon shows somehow.

can you believe these are made out of paper? fricken awesome, huh? and that 'win a free ride' sign actually made me think that it was a contest intially :P

oh me, oh my, i just love the dolls they have! i find the laughing ones especially adorable, and although i am a little freaked out by children's toys (especially the kind of battery operated dolls that can walk and talk and freaking blink their pretty eyes!) i liked how non-barbie these were.

and these were uber uber cool to the point that if i had money i would have bought them! each large mask is $6.50, the smaller ones are sold at $6 and $4. insanely gorgeous! i swear they were so pretty i would have gladly worn a different one to class each wed, thurs and fri!

after rash treated me to a prosperous meal at macs (thanks babe, hehe) we left for home but not before we saw these 5 hugeass guys! they must be from some china/taiwan basketball team! i wonder how fricken tall yao ming is compared to these guys...

adventure with rash

i was feeling a little free today so i decided to do a photo-blog entry on my day out with rash! (the indonesia pics will take a while longer because, well, i am not THAT free.)

anywhoo, as always rash and i met up without a plan. we usually just do things based on spontaneity and we let our feet get ourselves around. since we are always stranded somewhere around bugis/arab street, i decided we should try out cityhall this time since so many places are nearby.

after eating at sakura, we walked about, avoiding any places that were familiar to us. we chanced upon the arts house and since we were virgins to the place, we snooped about and entered cautiously. once inside, we were ready to be camwhores since it was practically empty since there was no exhibition whatsoever.

we were not green in the face by nature, i just thought it was funny to edit the original picture, haha. btw, i am in my joker combination! purple and greeeeen :D

after that we wandered upstairs and found the upper floors completely left to our own use!

plus, we found a lonesome piano begging us to play it with love and care. who are we to deny it of some passionate caresses?

nope, i'm NOT high on crack, i'm just being...intense.

after that we loitered some more and found these pull out slot things with information on, um...something or the other. the slot we pulled out was about the function of the speaker.

anyway, after that we walked some more passing by fullerton hotel. since neither of us had been inside in all of our 21 years, we thought what the heck, let's play the 'complete tourist' game and take a tour! hehe.

first up, the toilets!

yep, the toilets are pretty wonderful. sparkly clean, yellowy dim and smells like toilet heaven. yep, i suggested we trap the air in and sell it off as perfume later.

moving along we went up to the topmost floor...which was the 8th floor actually.

i admit the balloons look a tad weird but what the hey, it looks as though we were in some other part of the world.

the san marino area, i think. the guests were supposed to wait here for their rooms i think? who cares! can you spot rash?

then we went down to the 5th floor where the indoor garden is at. well, i think it's either called the indoor garden or garden balcony but since both sound wrong, let's just say it's the area where many potted plants are located.

we even walked past the rooms and boy it was really nice. the staff who saw us were soooo polite, even greeting us good afternoon etc. i'm impressed! no wonder the prices for accomodation are sky-high! service is bloody good. after all the ooohing and aaahing, we left the hotel.

wheeee, automatic revolving doors! yep, so unglamourous.

so after that, we walked some more into clarke quay and dropped by burger king at central mall. then we exchanged presents! it was cool that we both brought presents in different giordano bags (mine plastic, rash was paper), haha. thanks rash for the lovely, lovely two sided necklace!

but i really adored the card just cos it was hand-made and looks so colourful and difficult to make!

and the cool thing is that i also made her a card! hehe. i think my presents were sooooo crappy (sorry rash!) but the card was nice, right?

and that, people, was how i spent the last 24 hours of 2007.

last sunday, i attended my cousin's engagement ceremony. when i was younger, the other engagement ceremonies that i can recall were usually very boring cos i hardly did anything (except eat of course). maybe i would mingle around, peer in and watch the men talk between themselves, study the cheery expressions on the women's...

but last sunday, nani was the video camera person so i tagged along with her and became sort of an experimental photographer. i know nuts about photography but i dabble here and there...and i think i'm not too bad too!

first and foremost (did i actually forget to mention my cousin's name? bad ain!) kak noridah, famous for her award winning pantuns and sajaks (malay poetry), someone i personally admire for being so well-read and successful (she's only 26 and already writing a book!), was getting engaged that sunday and i think she looked especially radiant for this occasion. i think this shade of blue complements her fair skin uber well.

the food in the living room! yum. snacks vary from jellies, brownies, fruit custard and other finger food that i don't know the names of (since i only know them by taste anyway).

the sweetest thing happened pretty recently...aisyah cooked for the lonerz dinner at her place! it was a 3 course affair that had vege options, no beef and all halal (in her own words, okay?)! come to think of it, to consider all these things (since all of us had different food preferences) and STILL cook good food is pretty tough these days. so hat's off to aisyah!

since we were polite guests, we brought her flowers, chocolate and (non-alcoholic) champagne. well, actually me and samz and pras were polite. the rest are cruel, heartless, hungry people!

malaysia trip #2: 3rd week of june (thursday to sunday)

ahhhh i loved this trip cos my cousin jo and his family were with us, and it was funny cos although we were heading to genting and colmar, my family and i did stuff together that we could have easily done in singapore, only that we never really got around to it. more about that later.

so here we are waiting for the bus to arrive:

at the mosque in putrajaya. or is the mosque called putrajaya? hmm. all i know is that it's a beautiful place early in the morning. and sue is wrapped up in that ridiculous garb cos we've got to be appropriately dressed, meaning girls must have their heads covered. i think she looks cool anyways.

and after more driving, we arrive at genting! it was cold!

i couldn't even see the rides, but i could hear the screams!

i took this pic! i think i should consider a job as a professional photographer in case my dream of becoming a lit professor doesn't come true.

so as i was saying, we all did stuff that most people who went to genting probably would give a miss. for instance, we went kboxing! haha, it was lame but fun! all the nostalgic malay songs... and then we went for bowling. my dad was great at it once he got the hang of the game. i, as always, was bad but i got me my lucky strike. oh! and we went to the arcade together too! my mom even got hooked on the daytona races. i swear sometimes i think she's superwoman.

anyway, after genting we all set out for colmar tropicale. i loved colmar the first time i came cos it was a totally relaxation kinda place. this time however it started off badly cos we went up the crappy botanical and japanese garden. look at my dramatic agony!

well, what the heck right? we're here so might as well take photos and pretend to be happy.

after that we went back to our rooms and chilled out till it was time for dinner. the last time i came to colmar, nani wasn't with me so i expressed to her how terribly awesome colmar was and how great the buffet was blah blah blah. the buffet theme this time was bbq and though the food was fantastic, most of it disappeared really quickly cos the chefs bbq-ed the food in small batches. so if you missed the first round of bbq prawns for instance, you gotta wait!

anyway, we had seats outside the restaurant and had a great view of the entertainment of the night. they even came up to us to serenade songs! awww...

that night after dinner, all the kids went for more games at the arcade. and since it was father's day the next day, we got our dad cake from a bakery. now, my cousin jo is very cheeky and constantly surprises me with his antics. after the very cute waiter served me and handed me the plastic-packed slices of cake, jo who hadn't been saying anything at the store, turned to the waiter and said, 'thank you, i love you, good night.' my jaw dropped and before i could hush jo up, the waiter replied, 'good night, i love you too.' maybe if i wasn't so flustered i would have definitely gotten his number...only that it would be damn useless.

i was so flustered i told the cashier that i was paying for one slice of cheese cake, one slice of GOOD CHARLOTTE cake. wahaha! fucking funny.

anyway, so the next day we had to leave.

and since nothing else interesting happened after this last pic was taken, i shall end my very boring photo post right now. hehe.

malaysia trip #1: 2nd week of june (friday to sunday)

so first up we went to malacca! it was quite intense 'cause it was only a two day shopping thing and i had an exam on the following thursday. hence, to reassure myself i actually brought along my notes...but yea, i didn't study much.

on the bus:

at the lobby of the hotel...happy people!

we were staying over at the mahkota hotel and it was my first time there so it was a pleasant surprise to see that the rooms looked like a home! yep, there was a living room, a (useless) kitchen and a bedroom!

and just cos i am gross...

and i lurve malacca cos there's gula melaka! like, it's the best thing ever. check out the ice kachang they have there:

yep, there's none of the overrated green/red/yellow syrup. instead, there's a whole lot of really yummy gula melaka! and beneath all that ice, there's real peanuts, broad beans, chin chao and the green chendol jelly. oh hell yea, i was in heaven big time.

the downside about going malaysia with my mom and aunt is that they wanted to go to bandar hilir, which is this non-airconditioned place where they sell snacks and souvenirs.

and i thought this was kinda strange...it says 'superman' but the figurines look like power rangers, right?!

i know this is so belated, and i feel kinda bad cos i still haven't updated on vidya's birthday post (cos i don't have the pics! not my fault!) but i am in one of those long posts kinda mood so i shall do this when the mood is there (it's fast fading off cos i am still upset over my mp3 player).

anyways, yati's belated birthday celebration was held at figs and olive at vivocity and i think maybe i'm just not meant to enjoy myself there ever cos the first time i went there i had sorethroat, and this time around, their service was really bad. and then, after it all ended, there was some problems with the bills and shit...BUT! this is supposed to be about yati and not me so let's move along now!

ok here's the deal. the offical camera people aka samz and yati didn't bring their cameras (well, samz couldn't make it that night so obviously her camera wasn't there as well) so we all had to make do with camera phones. NOW i know why we have cameras in our phones! so here's usha playing the role of the replacement camera woman. pras doesn't look impressed.

after dinner we walked around for a bit. and we camera whored some more! (like duh)

and then! yati opened her presents! ok the pics are really blurry unfortunately so i can't show the prezzies we got her, but basically we got her this really HOT dress and clinique perfume (which i have btw! but mine is imitation lah...)

and i was the appointed birthday present wrapper this time and i tell you i did a GREAT JOB but noone took a photo of the nicely wrapped box with the nicely tied ribbons! hmph. but yati looked ecstatic anyway so that's good enough for me...

movie night

the first thing i did after my exams ended was to have a movie night at ntu with usha, vidya AND PRASANNA! samz couldn't make it last minute so we had to make do with my movies.

after we shopped for snacks, we brought the loot back to vidya's room.

first movie we watched was one of my all-time favourites, FIGHT CLUB!

i know usha liked it!

though vid didn't really like fight club cos...cos she sucks that why! (just kidding, you know i love you vidya, hehehehe)

after that, we took a break and watch manymanymany episodes of friends (how appropriate, hehe)! and then...vid wanted to watch man u get trashed by ac milan so we went downstairs to the only tv room with cable to find that it was packed with guys. since vid is a demure decent girl she stayed outside to watch her favourite team get seriously humiliated before deciding to give herself a break and we all went upstairs to watch...ROB B HOOD (you know, that movie with jackie chan and a baby in it)! although my family told me the film was super hilarious, it didn't go down well with any of us.

so we watched even more episodes of friends, and we cheered up reasonably.

finally, we watched 'music and lyrics' which is the most boring shit ever and then all of us fell asleep half way during the show...so vid switched off her comp and we all slept.

so there we were, 4 people on two mattresses and i woke up looking at prasanna's face which scared me a little (hehe) and in the end, since i was the earliest to wake up the next day, i left early to bathe in my room. heehee.

all in all it was fun! but so damn tiring cos we only slept after 5 am which was quite amazing since the last time we did the movie night, we zonked off before 3 am.

okay, okay. so basically, one of the things i did after the exams was to hang out with aliah and esther at the v tea room at the esplanade. the initial plan was to watch 'eternal summer' BUT! at the very last minute esther mentioned that her friend said the movie sucked. so i messaged anneson who uh, was in hong kong (sorry! but no fair!) who told me zequan watched the film already and SHE told me that...she was bored stiff! apparently, the FUCKING IRRITATING NARROW MINDED BOARD OF CENSORS here cut out the ESSENTIAL SEX SCENE from the film!

hello? the poster itself (at cineleisure) had a picture of jonathan kissing shane BUT! the sex was cut out from the film! like esther said, that picture was just to lure people in. anyway, don't waste your money watching it in theatres. just watch it on youtube like me (and the rest of the cheapos with good taste).

back to my story!

so...me, aliah and esther decided to go to esplanade and check out the v tea room (which is located next to max brenner's...but i've never seen the tea room before)!

the interior was really pretty! i love the chairs, so flowery and sturdy yet comfy.

whilst waiting for our PINK ROSE MARIGOLD tea, there was free cookie sampling! the cookies were cool cos some had flowers in them.

the cool menu...which i wanted to steal...but i didn't (cos i was pretending to be a victorian aristocrat and i'm supposed to be morally upright).

tea is here! they actually use these cool trolleys to deliver cups and serviettes.

tea! but they serve tea without sugar (which i think is pointless and stupid) so the tea tasted like perfumed hot water. i would suggest bringing along a packet of sugar so that there would be SOME taste to the drink.

and we shared the lovers' brownie. but...we aren't lovers so it was kinda awkward. heeheehee.

this is as victorian as we could get...so we basked in it! (cue for pinkies in the air!)

my window. it has a freaking disgusting ledge cos it's literally covered with dead insects and dried bird shit. other than that, it's a relatively nice window, hur hur. AND it can be nostalgic during this time of day cos everything is bathed in warm amber.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO PRAS WHO TURNED 21 ON THE 19TH OF FEB!

in true lonerz style, there was a mad rash to buy her presents. i was SICK, and i mean like really, really sick okay, AND YET! i turned up! i know, i know, i am such an awesome friend. anyway, the plan was to get some kind of jewellery (yawn) with an engraving inside. we walked all over orchard but things were either out of our budget or were unsuitable for pras.

i was, of course, undeniably upset.

after meeting up with aisyah who was with her scandalous partner (hahaha) we made our way down to lucky plaza (in the hopes of getting lucky...LAME!) cos mr. trainee from some jewellery store recommended that mall to us cos it had many places that did engraving. SUCH. A. LIAR.

the good thing though is that we found a swatch watch that kicked ass. after further walking around orchard to look for engraving places, we realised we were out of time...and luck. so we zoomed off to vivo city where pras and vid were already at.

my aunts have this preference of going to the beach during a public holiday that i cannot really understand. the kids would have all the fun cycling or swimming or running about, but my aunts do nothing more than gossip and lie about. (when i say 'lie' i mean lying down on the mat, not fibbing.)

usually going to the beach would mean me soaking myself in the sea but i chose not to do that this time around, opting instead to read. it was a clever decision on my part because the tide was freaking low and didn't rise at all while i was there.

also, i picked up a new 'thingy'.

kite flying!

that's my cousin's kite i borrowed to fly. awesomeness.

it's not easy to fly a kite, because it depends on the wind and how you manouver your kite. it gets especially tricky when it's you've allowed it to fly really really really far and then the wind drops and the kite starts to fall and you freak out because suddenly you realise there are trees everywhere obstructing the the way for a clear landing! that's what happened to me. i was flying my uncle's kite and it got stuck on a really tall tree. since noone could get it down, he had to cut the string away from the kite and leave it up there. i was so bummed out cos firstly, it wasn't my kite, and secondly it was the first time that day that i got to fly the kite so damn far.

oh well.

since the tide was really low, people stopped swimming and started to fly kites. unfortunately, i hadn't the care and concern in the world to take pictures of other people's kites.

this was how bad it was.

actually, i should mention this. when i started trying out kite flying, it was frightening to let go of the string too much. i don't know if i was afraid that it might land and hit someone on the head, or if i was scared that it might get stuck on a tree or that it reminded me that somethings in life simply have to be let go of and if it fails to return, i just have to leave things be. at least i'll still have the string, no?

everything was good and all, but my arms, especially the right one, was burning. the skin i mean. when i got home and away from the sun, i realised how badly sunburnt i was.

it hurt a lot yesterday, but today it's all right. doesn't look that red anymore, and as long as it doesn't peel and shit (my skin hardly ever peels, even when my face gets sunburnt) it's not a problem.

curse of the golden neoprints

rash and i were supposed to bunk over at my hall last thurs, but unfortunately we had to cancel. however, we still did have a blast despite everything :) we met up at lido and had lunch while watching trailers. thinking through all the movies that were available, we realized we had to do away with the initial idea of watching a scary film...because none were available. so we planned on exploring other parts of singapore...only to realize we'd seen most of it already. then, then, then, i was thinking...why not try something different? why not watch something we'd normally wouldn't watch?

so we settled for this:

it was directed by zhang yimou, and though i haven't seen any of his other films, i remember his name cos one of the professors from the conference i attended last year did a lecture on him. also, jay chou in the get up was kinda funny. intrigued and excited, we walked into the theatre.

ok, i was just kidding there, haha.

as always i smuggled in drinks, and like the last time i smuggled in coffee, it spilled in my bag. however, after a brief moment of tension as i cleaned the inside of my bag, everything went smoothly from then on.

the film had two veteran actors, chow yun fat and gong li, both expertly handling their roles. watching gong li is kind of tiring though, cos she cries a lot in this film, but it's not those 'oh-my-GOD-I-HATE-MY-LIFE!!!' kind of crying. it was those tortured, aching, burning soul inside kind of pain. very draining. chow yun fat is...kinda sexy with his long hair and all. and jay chou is strangely adorable. haha! he reminds me of a hamster. a hip hop hamster to be exact. with smaller eyes.

the cinematography was grand, but i think credit should be given to the props and costumes involved. the physicality of the women, how their chests were bound so tight, seemed to parallel the empress' (gong li) suffocation at being controlled by her husband and her past. the drama unfolds quite quickly, and there were strong moments of "GASP! NO SHE DIDN'T!". however, the ending was extremely abrupt, and maybe staying true to a rather post-modernist perspective, the director left the story with an extremely vague and abrupt end.

i think me and rash were the only non-chinese people in the audience that day. we were surrounded by many old folks and some teens in the midst. there was this lady in particular who kept going "tsk tsk" everytime someone is killed in the show. i can almost visualise her disapproving head shaking from left to right, pondering on the ways of this world. hahahaha.

after the movie, we walked to heeren to take some (free) neoprints!

while playing on the colourful poles (no doubt for worthy practice of young child pole dancers) ain spots someone who resembles jake's very pretty ass.

we may not be teenagers anymore, but we still have the license to be cute! well, until it's taken away from us when we turn 21 this year. dangggg nadia just lost her license on the 4th of jan. bah!

Langkawi/KL

one thing i absolutely loved about langkawi is the weather. the skies are impossibly blue, clouds unimaginable fluffy and white, and the waters incredibly crystal clear. and the indian food! i drool just thinking about the indian food there. this time around though, there were multiple bumps in the road, both literal and metaphorical. all in all however, this felt like one experience that was somehow life changing, artistically, emotionally, and in many other ways.

after that it rained incredibly hard and drenched us to the bone, so we sped back to shore. our faces were beaten out of shape for sure, and for a moment it became quite scary cos we couldn't even see what was in the distance cos the rain and wind was so heavy. lugging our wet asses back to the hotel, we got a nice bath each, grabbed dinner and after that we made our way down to the night market.

and then, i met the cutest salesgirl ever! her name is nur iza athira and she's seven years worth of adorable-ness!

the next day we had a tour guide (oh yea, forgot to mention, first hiccup of the trip is that we had no tour guide on day one, everything was arranged by the tourists themselves! geez.) and he brought us around. first stop is at lagenda park (i think) where the 12 meter high eagle of langkawi was situated.

there were so many islands that they ran out of names. yep, when islands are called 'kentut besar' (big fart) and 'kentut kecil' (small fart) you know they've stopped trying to be creative.

the bird scared the fuck out of me, simply because it was just so huge. i dunno it just gives me the chills. in a good way too, strangely.

next stop: the makham mahsuri, which is this place they dedicated to the legendary princess mahsuri, who was wrongly accused of cheating on her husband (i think) and was killed. before she died she cursed the land, saying that there would be no peace for the next seven generations. sue wondered by she had to do that, seeing that everyone else was not at fault. but i think that if i were her, my rage at being so wrongfully charged without a chance to speak, simply because i was a freaking woman, i would leave a curse so huge that it would screw up everyone and everything. i mean, die with a bang man. then again, if i were to curse the world, i doubt anything would happen though. maybe cos i'm not a beautiful princess i guess.

this guy would take pictures of people getting off the bus and the pictures will be printed on souvenir plates and stuff and he will sell them to customers. i decided to snap his picture before he could snap mine. in the end my photo was not developed. i would've bought it if it was a picture of me taking a photo of him!

and these, are the best fish keropok ever. they call it 'lidah ikan' meaning fish's tongue cos it comes in thin long strips. yummilicious.

next stop: the minyak gamat factory. minyak gamat is this oil that is used for aching limbs and stuff. my family swears by it.

gah, i love the scenery.

anyways, after all that we got hungry so we dropped off someplace to have lunch, indian style! yay! i was so hungry all i cared about was eating.

the slightly different version of gulab jamun. it's sweeter if that is even possible!

then we went to some padi museum and i saw this freaking awesome aviary which is an almost exact replica of the aviary in my primary school!

one of the last stops was at this place where once the people burned all their land's rice to protect themselves from being overtaken and invaded. i think.

so after the tour, we all went back, exhausted. my dad bought us food from a nearby hawker center and we had dinner in our hotel room. we planned to go to a shopping mall later that night but no! an islandwide blackout occured! for an hour fifteen minutes too! it was scary cos everything was blanketed with darkness.

dangggg. after that strange experience, we recovered by going downstairs for some late night snack.

the next morning we were off to kl.

it rained.

anyways, since the travel agency sucked big time, our bus drivers didn't know the way to our hotel and so we arrived later than planned. fuck. that night we went to petaling street where my dad claimed that a bapok grabbed on to him and pulled him aside. one should only get so lucky. i wish a bapok would grab me. we'd both have a great conversation i think.

the day after we went to mid valley megamall which is officially my new favourite mall. 2 hours is really not enough time!

and it has the biggest food junction around.

and so ends my trip to langkawi/kl. after nearly 24 hours (in total travel time) of my ass fraternizing with the bus seat, i am glad i'm home. i sure miss the hot cerulean skies though.

list of things that went wrong:
1) no tour guide on day one, had to find the bus ourselves and plan for the day ourselves too.
2) during the island hopping, we were supposed to visit three islands, but cos of unexpected rains, we only went to one.
3) blackout on the night of day two in langkawi
4) bus drivers being morons and getting lost while looking for the hotel in kl
5) at the singapore customs, our line was so fucking slow cos the officer was so overly concerned if everyone were terrorists or smugglers or evil doers out to destroy this 'fine' city of ours.

but like i said earlier, it was a blast. and i loved every moment of it.

now i want to sleep, so go away.

Arty Farty Day With Rash

met up with rash um...some time ago, and as always, rash time is explore-singapore-and-do-completely-impulsive-things-time! we planned to walk around chinatown but somehow we ended up walking to the red dot design museum, zipping off to cityhall to see the tickle arts (i dunno if we actually saw the exhibition but we saw other arty farty stuff), dropped by esplanade and got high on chocolate at max brenner's, walked some more and ended up at the asian civilisation museum!

i've got 30 pics to put up for this, so i'll be real brief with the captions (cos i'm a lazy piece of shit so sue me). also it's past 2am and i wanna put up my (70 plus) langkawi pics as well.

red dot design museum:

real nice place with cool cafes and bars, but the museum space itself is very small, so me and rash skipped that bit. one stupid ass guy was around when we were taking photos, damn near pissed me off cos i can't pose when people are around me dammit!

on the way to the esplanade:

this was all about the issue of the supposed lion that sang nila utama saw. a suggestion that maybe, just maybe, he saw something else which he thought was a lion. so...here were some possibilities, haha. nice.

when we got out of the damn lift, the security guard outside scolded us cos the museum was closing. hello dumbass, if you didn't want anyone using the lift then switch the damn power off. don't freaking point your finger at me and say 'where are you from?' like that helps or changes anything! asshole.
